NED 1/9 Arc-Second currently covers sections of the United States such as the Puget Sound area of Washington State, areas hit by Hurricane Katrina, and portions of Maryland, to name a few, with a resolution of roughly 3 meters. Light Detection and Ranging (Lidar) data, a type of laser radar, is used to create these elevation datasets.
